Smithfield Township was established in 1803 and is one of the earliest establishments in Jefferson County. Still yet today, we're working together with you to strive toward improvements and quality of our area. You deserve effective, efficient, grass roots leadership in township goverment. Our mission statement is to promote and preserve township government. We administer projects that result in economic and sound solutions that benefit Smithfield Township. This site was designed to provide information to all residents of the area and we hope that you will use as a resourceful aid. Please take a moment to look around and let us know what we can do to better serve the community. We take pride and will continue to improve Smithfield Township. If there was one person in local government who cared enough to make a difference in our small community and Smithfield Township it was Ray Amoroso. If it weren't for his work there'd be no Piney Fork, Ohio, on the map or the fine rubber road leading it there. The truth be told, Ray deserved the Grassroots Leadership Award, Official of the Year and every award presented to him. He was a person who took interest in government and was very knowledgeable about the flow of paperwork procedures for state government. His passion and enthusiasm to improve our townships and local communities were remarkable. He did his very best in his campaign for county commissioner with integrity. He took pride in his Vice Presidency of Ameribank and in all walks of his life's accomplishments. The last fight he took on was a great one and it was done so with dignity and courage. His strength and bravery will be remembered. My reflections of Ray, twould include his humorous outlook of the lighter side of life, the Pittsburgh, Steelers and hearing songs of Steppenwolf. In the image of these I will smile because his grin will flash brightly in my memory and his laugh will not be forgotten.
