THE BIRTH OF A COAL MINING TOWN
In 1896, almost a hundred years later, Robert J. McCleary (1856-1930)
founded a town which would later become known as Connorville. The town was
named after Oliver Connor, who found coal in the hills... Eventually a few
small coal mines were organized by the Wheeling and Lake Erie Coal Mining
Company of Cleveland, Ohio on August 23, 1900.
By 1910, the population of the Village of Connorville had grown
to 1440 people.
