THIS PAGE HAS GONE TO THE DOG!

This page has been taken over by Holly, our Schnauzer/Terrier mix. She is a "Pound Puppy" that joined the Burge family in December of 1994. Since the day she showed up, she has completely taken over the house, especially wrapping my dad, Herb, around her little paw! With her soulful brown eyes and friendly personality, she has been the perfect pet.
Our family had almost always had cats, with the exception of a couple dogs over the years. After our last Siamese cat, Spyder, had to be put to sleep, my parents swore "no more pets!" Of course, my mom, Rose, always said she would know her pet if she ever saw it.
Holly was at the Ohio Valley Mall that fateful day in December as were Mom and I. The Animal Rescue League of Belmont County was having their "Pet Adoption Day," and Holly was outside being exercised by one of the volunteers as we were leaving the mall. As soon as Mom saw Holly, she said, "There's my dog!" We stopped in the parking lot and looked over the furry little creature. Holly was about 6 months old then but she had "puppy" written all over her! She was lively and friendly and just wanted attention.
Mom debated on whether to take her or not. Finally, she talked herself out of it, and we started to leave the mall again. We almost made it to the Mall Road when Mom said, "Turn around. I want that dog!" Being the good daughter I am, I promptly turned around, and Mom filled out her adoption papers. The next step, convince Dad that this was a good idea!
When we returned home with the dog, Dad wasn't easily convinced. He acted mad and tried hard not to pay attention to Holly. Well, needless to say, it didn't work. Now, Holly is spoiled rotten by Dad more than anyone. She is his special buddy and they are inseparable!
Holly has melted many hearts in the time she's lived with us. She is fantastic with kids as well as hockey players! If you are looking for the perfect animal companion, you can't go wrong by visiting your local animal shelter where many loving babies are waiting just to share their life and love with you!
