Apparently the American school teachers are so busy these days teaching the 3 R's, that they don't take time to teach our school children the proper respect to our American flag. I've been to ball games and parades lately, and I've been appalled by the way people behave when the flag is presented.
When I was in school we were taught to stand at attention and put our hand over our heart when the flag passed by. Hats came off and were held over the heart. This was proper respect to the flag of our country.
"The Star Spangled Banner" is our national anthem and should be sung standing at attention with hand over heart, also. I very seldom see anyone salute our flag anymore. At ball games, people don't even standup. What is wrong with the people of our country? Don't they know that we are the luckiest people in the world? If they read the newspapers or watched the news on TV, they would know how people are forced to live in other countries. We all know of someone who was killed during a war. Who fought for our country and that beautiful red, white and blue flag. We owe them the gratitude and respect of honoring the flag.
The next time you see the flag presented please honor it in the correct way, and see to it that your children and grandchildren show respect for it, too.
