ANIMALS

WHEN DID GOD GIVE MAN PERMISSION TO KILL AND EAT ANIMALS?

Before the great deluage Man lived with and ate the same as the animals. It could be said that man lived in harmony with the animals. After the flood God gave man permission to kill and eat animals.

In Acts 10, Peter fell asleep and had a vision of a large sheet being lowered from the sky. It was full of four footed creatures, reptiles and birds. God told him to, "Get up, kill and eat". Peter refused, saying he would not eat anything profane or unclean. God replied, "What God has made clean, you shall not call profane".

This is the scriptural message that no meat is forbidden. However, the real focus in this text is that God was pronouncing His commandment that it is not up to us to declare what is profane, including animals or even people of another nationality. It refers to Jews and Gentiles. We are not to consider another person as unclean or profane. By doing so, we are judging others and that is the responsibility and privilege of God, not man.
