Dear Reader,
Please read the following as it pertains to the sale of raw milk products in Ohio. Sorry it has been illegal to sell, give or provide raw milk for human or animal consumption since 1967. Because we are a licensed shipper and cheese maker we cannot take the risk of losing our license. Although we do drink our own unpasturized raw milk. People are constantly contacting us. Thanks for your response, we have thought a lot about this situation and decided that our family has never been law breakers. It is decidedly a poor choice for us to become associated with an illegal situation. We will continue our quest, for on farm tests, certified raw milk producers, and licensing for that means. However you may use unpasturized raw milk if you take care of and own a cow or goat. We only sell cheeses made from raw milk. Thank you and live gently.

Ohio Raw Milk Sales:
Ohio residents should be aware that the sale, offering for sale or exposure for sale of raw milk from cows or goats to the consuming public is a violation of Ohio Revised Code 917. Pathogenic organisms shed in the milk of apparently healthy animals have caused diseases such as brucellosis, campylobacterosis, salmonellosis and tuberculosis. Pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli O157:H7 can also be introduced during and after milking and have been responsible for foodborne disease outbreaks. Ohio's dairy laws do not prohibit dairy farmers from selling milk directly to consumers, provided they meet pasteurization and other requirements and become a licensed and inspected milk processor. The Ohio Department of Agriculture strongly urges all consumers to drink only milk that has been properly pasteurized at a licensed and inspected facility. For additional information about raw milk and milk pasteurization, please contact the Ohio Department of Agriculture - Dairy Division at dairy@mail.agri.state.oh.us
Also, here is a quote from an e-mail I received, "The Ohio Dept. of Agriculture's animal feed regulations are developed, in part, from the guidelines established by the American Association of Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). Since AAFCO does not recognize raw milk as an animal feed ingredient, ODA does not allow raw milk or unaged cheeses made from raw milk to be labeled and distributed as pet food. We are aware that this practice is being conducted in some areas of the state, and we do take the necessary regulatory action when found." by, Lewis R. Jones, R.S., Chief, Dairy Division Ohio Department of Agriculture, (614) 644-8621
